In collaboration with Prince George's County officers, Laurel Police arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of committing an armed carjacking Sunday in Laurel.

Police said the carjacking occurred in the 14600 block of Baltimore Avenue. A 35-year-old Gaithersburg man, Nelson Javier Acevedo, was charged with the carjacking.

Police said Acevedo showed a handgun and demanded his victim's keys, fleeing in the victim's vehicle. Surveillance footage from a nearby business showed the carjacking and Acevedo walking through a nearby parking lot. Police were also able to track the victim's phone since it had been left inside the car.

Tracking the phone led police to a location in Hyattsville, where the victim's car was found. Prince George's County police were informed of the investigation and aided in the arrest of Acevedo. Laurel Police took the carjacking victim to Hyattsville where a positive identification of Acevedo was made.
