Police in Howard County continue to investigate after prisoner, David Watson, escaped from custody Friday.
The ground search was suspended and it's not believed Watson is in Howard County but residents are being cautious.

"It's concerning but you have to be vigilant and keep alert," Abelardo Dominguez told ABC2.

Watson was serving a 106 year sentence in Wicomico County for attempted murder. Somehow escaped police custody while en route to a psychiatric evaluation.  Now local officials are working with the Maryland State Police and the U.S. Marshall Service to locate him.

"There's a lot of places for him to hide around here.  A lot of yards he could go through or houses he could  break into if he wants to, there's no telling," said Greg Sholly.

Police used K-9's, bloodhounds and aerial surveillance but turned up nothing.

"Sooner or later he's going to make a mistake and somebody's going to catch him I just hope he doesn't harm anybody in the process," said Dominguez.

That's just what investigators are hoping for.  Although it's not believed Watson is in the Jessup or Howard County area,  people are still worried.

"It definitely doesn't make me feel safe.  I hope to be kept abreast of the police's efforts to recapture the person," Ninotchka White.

Residents are also taking extra precautions until Watson is found.

"Definitely locking doors and thinking twice and make sure that we double check if somebody knocks on the door or we see something suspicious just call it in," Dominguez said.

"I'm usually pretty careful anyway so I'm just going to make sure I'm extra cautious and make sure I'm paying attention to my surroundings," White told ABC2.

Police are still gathering information and evidence to determine if Watson's escape was a planned,  or impulsive act.  Call police immediately if you see Watson.
