Update:

Thomas was sentenced to life in prison without parole on September 28, 2023.

Original Story:

Howard County police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of Anthony Tayvon McNeil.

McNeil was shot and killed on May 1 near the intersection of Governor Warfield Parkway and Twin Rivers Road at approximately 12:15 a.m.

Police say 29-year-old Jerome Tyrell Thomas is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and various firearm charges.

Police were called to the intersection for a report of a fight among multiple people with shots fired and located the 24 year old suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in a nearby parking lot.

McNeil was transported to Howard County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from an earlier verbal altercation between acquaintances of McNeil and Thomas. The investigation is ongoing.
