An 18-year-old man has been arrested for the armed robbery of an Edgewood bank. The Harford County Sheriff’s Department said officers have arrested and charged Tyree C. Smith of Bel Air with armed robbery, first and second degree assault, and theft of $1,000 to $10,000.

Officers had responded to the BB&T Bank in the 1000 block of Gateway Rd Monday morning just after 10:30 a.m. where they learned the suspect had entered the bank displaying a weapon, and was able to flee with an undisclosed amount of cash. His car was seen shortly after in the area of Hillswood Rd in Bel Air. Police took Smith into custody for questioning without any incident. There were no injuries reported; the road had been shut down for a short time for investigation.

Police say Smith was taken to the Harford County Detention Center where he was being held on $35,000 bail; he was expected to have a bail review Tuesday afternoon.
