Maryland State Police have arrested a man wanted for shooting and killing a man Sunday in Somerset County. Troopers from the Princess Anne County barrack were called to the 11000 block of Freetown Rd after 3 p.m. Sunday where they found a man lying on the ground in the neighborhood. He was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.

Police later identified him as 31-year-old Arthur Terrell Alford of Salisbury.

During their investigation, officers found a long barrel .22 semiautomatic handgun, which is believed to be the murder weapon, as well as a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis where police believe Alford was shot.

Police say they have charged and arrested 33-year-old Donte Sylvian Sumpter of Princess Anne with first - and second-degree murder of Alford, first- and second-degree assault and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony.

Police are still investigating and ask anyone with information or who was in the area of 11000 block of Freetown Rd around 3p.m. Sunday and may have witnessed something to call police. Callers may remain anonymous.
