Police officers have arrested two Taneytown residents in connection with close to a dozen car break-ins this week in Westminster. On Tuesday 24-year-old Luis Gonzalez and 23-year-old Alyssa Russomanno were taken into custody after being identified as suspects in these incidents.
Between October 4 and 9, 11 cars were broken into throughout the Westminster area. In several of those incidents, witnesses reported seeing people in a silver truck or SUV smashing windows out of parked vehicles and stealing valuables from within the vehicles.
Investigators later found video identifying the suspect vehicle and another video of a male suspect in their 20's using a stolen credit card from one of the thefts.
Early Tuesday morning on MD Route 140 at Gorsuch Road, officers located and attempted to stop the suspected vehicle but the driver refused to stop and the pursuit was called off due to the reckless actions of the fleeing driver.
The truck was later found abandoned on Hughes Shop Road. The investigation revealed that the truck had been reported stolen in Nashville Tennessee on October 1.
Later that same day, deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office found a 2012 Mazda in the Harney area which had been reported stolen in Pennsylvania on October 9. Gonzalez and Russomanno were arrested by the deputies and later questioned linking them to the car thefts.
Both have been charged with the theft of the both the pickup truck and the Mazda. Police expect additional charges relating to the theft from auto cases. Both suspects are being held at the Carroll County Detention Center as fugitives from Texas.
