The years don't make it any easier. For Jenny Carrieri, the heartache is still raw. Instead of bringing comfort, being at her identical twin sister’s grave site is a painful reminder of the loss.
"You still move on with life, but there's still this great sadness,” she said. “I can just remember yesterday being here for her funeral, I mean it feels that real."
It was 21 years ago Thursday when Jenny’s life got turned upside-down.
Her sister Jody LeCornu was sitting in her car in the parking-lot of a York Road shopping center when she was shot in the back. The 23-year-old managed to drive across the street to another lot, but that's as far as she made it.
Baltimore County investigators know the triggerman followed Jody, taking something from her car before driving off. In the two decades since the chilling crime, the reason for Jody’s murder, and the name of her killer has puzzled police, as well as tormented Jenny.
"And then it's just another year that's gone by that we don't know what happened,” she said. “And that just makes it more frustrating."
Detectives have witnesses, surveillance videos, fingerprints, and a description of the murderer and his car. Yet the case is cold. With no charges or arrests, Jenny has made it her mission to crack the unsolved crime.
About seven months ago, Jenny took things into her own hands and hired an attorney, hoping to get a fresh pair of eyes to look over Jody’s murder case file. Since then, they have been locked in a legal battle with Baltimore County and the Police Department.

All Jenny wants are answers. She hopes by spreading her sister's story it might drum up new leads, and end the mystery of what happened to Jody. Finally getting justice 21 years in the making.
"You know, I just hope that we're gonna find out what happened to her,” Jenny said. “And I don't want to give up until we do."
There is a $32,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in Jody’s killing.
