Baltimore County Police have charged a suspect in a shooting that took place Saturday morning in Woodlawn.

Calyton Thomas Jr., 28, of the 5300 block of Leith Road, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and other related charges. Police said he's being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

An investigation has indicated that the victim shot was standing outside of Knights Inn with a friend when they were approached by Thomas. Thomas showed a handgun, said something the victim couldn't understand, and shot him once, according to police.

Thomas was later located in a room at the Knights Inn and taken into custody. Police said Thomas and the victim didn't know each other.

The reason for the assault is still unknown.
