Dundalk parents indicted after death of infant

Posted

A grand jury has indicted two people in connection with the death of their 1-month-old son.

Authorities say Eugene Joseph Buchta and Rachael Anne Johnson are facing charges, including first-degree child abuse.

Authorities say officials responded to a report of an infant who wasn't breathing on July 3 in Dundalk. Authorities say the infant was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities say Buchta was giving the child a bath when he left him unattended. Police say when Buchta returned, the child was submerged in hot water. Police say Buchta and Johnson put ointment on the infant. The following day, the child became unresponsive and Buchta and Johnson called 911.

The death is ruled a homicide. It's unclear if either Buchta or Johnson has an attorney.
