BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore County police have identified an officer who shot and wounded a man in a drug arrest of another person.
Police on Saturday said Officer Olszewski has been placed on administrative status while the incident remains under review. The department's contract with the police union allows identification of officers only by last name.
Police say Olszewski is a seven-year veteran assigned to the Essex precinct who has not been involved in any previous shootings. A vehicle passenger who was shot in the incident early Thursday morning is expected to survive.
Police say Olszewski fired after the passenger reached for his waistband and that a gun was found in the car.
The driver, Timothy Dudeck, 29, was arrested and faces a number of charges including drug possession and gun violations.
Surveillance video is expected to be made public Monday morning.
