Detectives arrested and charged 21-year-old Khalil Zakee Yeldell with first-degree murder after obtaining an arrest warrant. Members of the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force found Yeldell and took him into custody in Washington, D.C.

Police were able to determine that Yeldell was staying in an apartment in the 6900 block of Lachlan Circle at the time of the murder and fled to Washington, D.C. before officers arrived at the scene.

Officials were also able to determine a previous 911 call made that morning regarding another victim being threatened by a man with a knife fit the description of Yeldell.

An autopsy found that Buckley's death was caused by "sharp force trauma" which led officials to rule his death a homicide. Detectives are still trying to figure out the motive for the murder.
