A quick thinking teen helped capture a rape suspect after he sexually assaulted her, police said.
Police said on May 17, 26-year-old Darius Curry of Pompano, Florida offered to give two teenage girls a ride home from Lexington Market.
Curry dropped the first girl off at home and while enroute to the second girl’s home pulled over in the 2600 block of Waterview Avenue.
He then climbed into the passenger seat, overpowered the 16-year-old and sexually assaulted her.
After the assault Curry drove the victim home. When the teen got out of the car she recorded the vehicle on her cell phone as Curry drove away. She was able to capture Curry’s license plate, vehicle make and model.
Police determined that a Florida leasing company reported the car stolen on April 23 and learned the car was equipped with “On Star.”
Using “On Star” information, a police helicopter tracked the vehicle to the 2300 block of Perring Parkway where officers arrested him.
Curry was taken to Central Booking where he was charged on multiple counts of rape and assault.
