Teen arrested in bump and run carjacking

Baltimore Police have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with several "bump and run" style thefts.

Joseph Coates, 17, was arrested on charges including carjacking, robbery, theft between $10,000 and $100,000, conspiracy to commit carjacking, motor vehicle theft and second-degree assault.

Police said Coates was wanted in connection with a carjacking that occurred at the Route 40 underpass last month.

A bump and run is when a driver hits another car, then when the victim gets out of the vehicle to exchange information, the other driver steals his car. Baltimore Police recently warned residents about the uptick in such crimes.
