An employee at a popular Canton bar was robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning.
Video released by Smaltimore shows a man enter the restaurant around 12:45 a.m. asking to use the bathroom. When the suspect returned from the bathroom, he walked over to the employee and pulled out a gun. Keeping the gun pointed at the man's chest, the suspect followed him behind the counter to the cash register.
"You have someone in a business that tried to be nice. Someone knocks on the door after they close, asks to use the bathroom, trying to be a good guy, opens the door, next thing you know, he's the victim of a robbery," Det. Nicole Monroe of the Baltimore Police Department said.
Police say they've increased patrols in the Canton area.
"It's a scary thing because we're all here late a lot of the time and with all the crime going on here in Canton it's just kind of scary," said Smaltimore manager, Ryan Cooper.
Employees are upset that the suspect got away with $500-$600, but are thankful no one was hurt. They're now taking extra precautions when closing up.
"We're going to be staffing up a little more and closing with more people and as the last customers leave we might close up a little early just to be careful," Cooper said.
Now detectives are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call police or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP.
