According to the State's Prosecutors Office, while working on Pugh's campaign, Brown deposited cash into the bank accounts of several family members and then immediately contributed that money to the Pugh campaign in the names of his mother, brother and stepfather.
At the Board of Estimates Wednesday, Pugh was asked about Browns illegal contributions.
"The Gary Brown that I know has been a good employee for years," Pugh said. The mayor added she stands by Brown and that "as far as I know, the campaign complied with election laws."
The contributions totaled $18,000. The maximum amount an individual is allowed to contribute is $6,000 per election cycle.
