Police: Shootings down despite eight shot in one night

Baltimore detectives are busy after eight people were shot in the city Monday night. 

Police say there were two triple shootings, and then two additional shootings reported across the city. 

Here is a breakdown: 

  1. The first shooting was reported at 9:15 p.m. in the 3600 block of Mulberry Street. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the stomach, a 26-year-old man had gunshot wounds to his body, and a 27-year-old woman had gunshot wounds to her chest.
  2. The next shooting was in the 2300 block of Bryant Avenue around 9:50 p.m. A 23-year-old man was shot in the back. 
  3. Three people were shot in the 1900 block of Penrose Avenue around 11:39 p.m. A 24-year had several gunshot wounds, a 49-year-old man and woman both had gunshot wounds to the neck and cheek. 
  4. The last incident was reported at 11:45 p.m. after a 17-year-old walked into an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the cheek.

While eight people shot in one night seems alarming, non-fatal shootings are actually down in Baltimore compared to 2017. At this time in 2017, there were 125 non-fatal shootings reported compared to the 81 that have been reported this year. 

Homicides are also down in the city. In 2017 there were 61 murders at this time compared the 47 murders Baltimore currently has.
