Off-duty D.C. police sergeant fatally shot in Baltimore

An off-duty D.C. police sergeant has died and a woman was injured in a shooting in west Baltimore. 

Baltimore City police said officers were called around 12:45 a.m. to the 2800 block of Elgin Avenue for a reported shooting on Saturday.  

When officers arrived, they discovered Tony Mason Jr, 40, suffering from a gunshot wound to his body and a 43-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her leg. 

Both victims were transported to an area hospital where Mason died from his injuries.  

Detectives believe both victims were sitting inside of a parked car when an unknown suspect approached the vehicle and began shooting.  

Baltimore police said Mason was a sergeant with the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department who was off-duty at the time of the shooting. 

Officials are offering up to $20,000 for info about the shooting of the police sergeant.
