UPDATE: Baltimore Police say the suspect has died from his injuries. Police will continue to investigate the incident.

Baltimore City Police say an off-duty officer shot a man that had broken into his home in northeast Baltimore on Monday.

Police say the shooting happened in the 4400 block of Furley Ave just before noon when the off-duty officer called and said that he woke up to an armed robber.

The officer was confronted by the man who demanded money. The off-duty officer and man started to fight, and the officer was able to get the gun away from the suspect and shoot him.

Investigators say the suspect was rushed to the hospital in serious condition and the officer was not injured.

Both of their identities have not been released.

Police say this incident is different to investigate than an on-duty officer on the streets.
