A man was shot in the leg by a police officer during a foot chase early Saturday morning.

Police say that Citiwatch camera operators spotted at least three men arming themselves with handguns outside of a car in the area of Park Avenue and Clay Street. When the men saw police pulling up, they ran away in separate directions.

One of the suspects ran into the 200 block of W. Mulberry Street. He was confronted by officers and then shot in the leg. Police took the 20-year-old's loaded semi-automatic handgun and took him to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury. His charges are still pending.

While the second suspect was running away, camera operators were able to watch the man toss a gun into a dumpster in a nearby alley. The camera operator continued to track the man and directed officers to him. The 20-year-old was arrested and a loaded revolver was recovered from the dumpster in the alley.

A camera operator saw the third suspect run and also throw a gun into a dumpster in the 200 block of Clay Street, but police were not able to find and arrest him.

All guns were seized and submitted as evidence. Members from command and the Special Investigation Response Team responded out and are investigating this incident.  This investigation is open and ongoing.
