A man who shot an off-duty officer was sentenced to life plus 35 years in prison.
Gregg Thomas shot Sergeant Keith McNeill while he was sitting in his car on Belair Road in 2014. Witnesses identified Thomas as the shooter.
Thomas had previously been convicted of 2nd degree murder in 2004. After four attempts to convict him for the shooting of Sgt. McNeill, attorneys and police were satisfied with the verdict.
"Sgt. McNeill has exhibited a will to live. One in which he had to learn how to talk, how to walk because of the acts of an individual who was a violent perpetrator who should have never been on the streets of Baltimore," said Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby.
Mosby honored Sgt. McNeill with the "Officer Craig Chandler Heroism Award" in 2015.
