A Baltimore man is facing 20 years in prison after being convicted of raping a homeless woman last year.
Christ Bessimo will be sentenced June 22, according to a release from the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office.
Bessimo was convicted of second-degree rape on Monday.
The State’s Attorney’s Office said the victim was sleeping at a bus station in the 400 block of Cathedral Street on Jan. 13, 2015 when Bessimo began staring at her and her friends.
After she asked him why he was staring, Bessimo punched her in the face, climbed on top of her and began sexually assaulting her as her friends yelled for help.
A passerby heard the yelling and ran over to help. He grabbed Bessimo off the woman and held him down until police arrived.
