Three and a half months into 2017, Baltimore City is already close to reaching its 100th homicide. A violent Easter weekend, in which there were 13 separate shootings, brought the city’s total up this year to 94 murders so far.
The violence included a pregnant woman shot by her husband who was later found dead in Baltimore County; despite medical officials’ efforts, the baby did not survive either. A son of a fallen police officer also lost his life and a 90-year-old woman was shot but is expected to live.
At the same time last year, the city was only up to 70 fatal shootings.
