The recent spate of violence started when Baltimore Police found the body of 69-year-old George Madriaga laying outside his auto body garage in Northwest Baltimore, he was shot several times.

Madriaga's shop is one of many along Linden Heights.

Shacomba Phipps has been working at his repair shop down the block since 1988, he knew George as a kind man who worked hard.

"He ran a good business. He was always busy, keep things rolling. That's like a shock don't know," Phipps said.

Police are saying George's murder had something to do with an unknown dispute but his case is just the first of what would be seven shootings over the next 24 hours.

Someone was shot in the 2000 block of Penrose in West Baltimore just before 5:30 Thursday evening.

Friday, an officer walked the beat in the afternoon to maintain a presence.

That shooting was followed by a double shooting on West Lafayette and another nonfatal just blocks away on the alley of Boyd Street.

Then a 16-year -old was killed on the east side before another morning homicide on York Road in Govans where police say a 24-year-old was killed; shot dead while riding his bike.

"What is particularly disturbing about these nonfatal shooting scenes and fatal shooting scenes are the guns are the guns that we are recovering at these scenes. Guns associated with shooters. Guns associated with victims, it's about guns," said Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis.

Baltimore Police say they have recovered three guns from this particular spate of violence.

It is a surge they hope, but know is challenging to get in front of before any retaliation this weekend.

But already police know some of both the suspects and victims in these cases have a familiar story, they are often known to each other...and the justice system.

"We gotta do a better job as a criminal justice system by rounding third base,” the commissioner say , “So we have an arrest at first base, we have a successful prosecution at second base and we have a conviction at third base, we can fall down between third base and home plate with these suspended sentences."

Police also announced the death of 15-year-old Tyrese Davis.
