A 26-year-old man shot his father at the funeral of his brother Tuesday afternoon at New Song Worship Center, Baltimore Police said.
"The suspect in this case decided to pull out a gun that he brought to this event and shot his own father," police spokesman T.J. Smith said.
The father, 47, suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the abdomen and is in stable condition.
"I can't even describe how unnecessary and senseless this situation is," Smith said.
The shooting happened in a vestibule area of the church in the 1600 block of N. Baltimore Street.
"You can't really control some things, something's are out of your control. The police are around here all the time but they can't do anything about it," Calvin Hughes said.
The suspect's brother was killed May 25, Smith said.
"This is a funeral, this is something where you're supposed to be celebrating the life of your loved one," Smith said. "And a loved one brought a gun to this celebration of life, and used it against a family member. So there's not much you can do against that type of absolutely senseless act."
