A Baltimore man has been charged with animal cruelty and firearms charges following an investigation of dog fighting activity, police said.
Vernon Richards, 58, of the 1800 block of W. Lanvale Street, is also prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior criminal record, police said.
Baltimore Police said the department's Animal Abuse Unit received information that dog fighting activity was occurring at homes in the block where Richards lived.
Police searched Richards' home and recovered two pitbulls, a treadmill and various paraphernalia related to dog fighting, a Savage Arms shotgun, a .38 caliber revolver and a sawed-off shotgun.
Police said they also found evidence in another vacant home that indicated that dog fighting was taking place inside.
