A Baltimore man has been charged with animal cruelty and firearms charges following an investigation of dog fighting activity, police said.

Vernon Richards, 58, of the 1800 block of W. Lanvale Street, is also prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior criminal record, police said.

Baltimore Police said the department's Animal Abuse Unit received information that dog fighting activity was occurring at homes in the block where Richards lived.
