Baltimore 17-year-old arrested for murder

A 17-year-old was arrested for an alleged murder on the 1700 block of Register Street, midday Thursday.

A Eastern District officer was responding to a tenant dispute around 11:00 a.m. when he heard nearby gunfire. He began canvassing the area and came across a suspect, Eric Gilyard, recovering a semi-automatic handgun during the apprehension. 

Responding officers found two shooting victims, a 30-year-old male and a 69-year-old male near the scene. Both were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The 30-year-old victim, Walter Baynes, died of his injuries at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Gilyard was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, and related firearms charges.
