BALTIMORE (AP) - Three men have been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a toddler while trying to kill his father.

Twenty-five-year-old Rashid Mayo, 23-year-old Eddie Tarver, and 23-year-old Dequan Shields were convicted in February of first-degree murder in the death of 16-month-old Carter Scott. They were sentenced Monday in a Baltimore court.

Prosecutors say on May 24, 2013, a group of men ran up to Rashaw Scott's car and fired at least 16 shots. Rashaw Scott was the intended target; he was hit but survived. Carter Scott, who was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle, was fatally wounded.

Shields was sentenced to life plus 20 years; Mayo received two life terms plus 45 years, and Tarver got two life sentences plus 20 years.
