A burglary suspect was taken into custody Monday after being caught in the act by homeowners.

Anne Arundel County Police responded to a home in the 7800 block of Walnut Grove Road in Severn Monday at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a burglary report.

Police say the suspect, 37-year-old George William Houck, entered the house through an unlocked rear sliding door. Once inside, police say Houck took several pieces of jewelry and two glass jars filled with coins.

He was then spotted on the back porch of the house by a teenager whom the suspect didn’t know was home. Around the same time, the teen’s father arrived to find the suspect’s vehicle in the driveway and then spotted him on the back porch.

The father gave police Houck’s vehicle tag number, which was registered to his girlfriend. Officers responded to the car’s registered address and took Houck into custody once he arrived home.

Police say they recovered jewelry in Houck’s pockets. The stolen change was left behind on the back porch when he was spotted by the homeowner, according to police.
