TSA officers detained a Rosedale man after they say he brought a loaded handgun into BWI airport Friday afternoon.
The man, who TSA officials have not identified, caught the suspect trying to carry a loaded .40 caliber handgun past a security checkpoint. The gun was loaded with 13 bullets, officials said.
This marks the second gun that TSA officers have detected at BWI so far since January 1st. Last week, a loaded .380 caliber gun was detected at one of the airport checkpoints.
In 2015, TSA officials detected a total of 16 firearms at BWI.
TSA officers contacted the Maryland Transportation Authority Police who responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the firearm and detained the man.
The TSA said there was no impact to airport operations.
