A Laurel man is in police custody facing charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl while her family was setting up for her birthday party.
Laurel Police arrested Luis Alberto Cruz-Aguilar, 40, at a job site in Baltimore County Thursday morning.
Investigators say he was at the victim's Laurel home August 29 to help set up for her birthday party. Police say he lured the child into another room and sexually assaulted her then left the home.
The victim's family only knew Cruz-Aguilar as an acquaintance and did not have his address.
Through surveillance, investigators found out where Cruz-Aguilar worked and was arrested without incident.
During the course of their investigation, Laurel Police detectives learned that the suspect had an outstanding warrant for fourth degree sex offense in a 2010 sex assault of a 13-year-old girl.
Police say he never showed up for a court appearance and had been on the loose.
Cruz-Aguilar is facing several charges including, felony first-degree sex offense.
