Anne Arundel County Police are investigating after an accident occurred between a van and a motorcycle on Route 3 in Crofton Saturday night. Police say officers responded to the scene at 11:30pm for the crash.
Police believe a Kawasaki motorcycle was driving southbound on Rt 3 approaching Capital Raceway Road when a light colored van or SUV pulled onto Rt 3, crossed over two lanes of traffic and then suddenly turned left onto a crossover northbound Rt 3.
Witnesses told police the motorcyclist struck the other vehicle and was ejected from the motorcycle; he died from his injuries. Police have identified him as 29-year-old Lafawn Augustus Stevens, Jr. of 3155 Ryerson Circle in Halethorpe.
Police say the driver of the van/SUV fled the scene. Police are still investigating; they say speed on the part of the motorcyclist may also be a factor.
