A man and a woman were charged after a shoplifting incident that began at a Babies-R-Us store in Pasadena.
Police said the woman, identified as 28-year-old Tierra Latasha Reid of Baltimore, used her 10-year-old niece and 11-year-old daughter to help steal items from the store.
Anne Arundel County Police responded to the store at 8040 Ritchie Highway just before 7:45 p.m. Thursday and saw Reid and Erik Benjamin Prestbury, 50, running into a getaway car in the parking lot.
An officer got out to confront the suspects and was hit in the leg as the car drove off.
When other officers tried to block the car from exiting the parking lot, police said the driver “stopped for a brief moment, then placed the vehicle in reverse and intentionally rammed a patrol vehicle,” before getting away.
Police then pursued the car on Ritchie Highway, and observed car passengers throwing merchandise out of the window. Officers used stop sticks to deflate the car’s tires near 16th Avenue and took the suspects into custody.
Police said Reid and Prestbury face several assault, theft and traffic charges. The two girls were given juvenile citations.
The stolen merchandise, valued at $400, was recovered on the side of the road and returned to the store.
