A Millersville man has been charged with animal cruelty after police found a burned cat inside of his home.

On June 30 around 1 a.m., Animal Control and Anne Arundel County Police found an injured cat inside of 53-year-old Sean Todd McDermott’s home in the 8300 block of Hope Point Court.

The cat, named Charlie, was taken to the Anne Arundel County Emergency Veterinary Hospital where he was stabilized. Later that day, he was picked up from AAVEC and taken to Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital for long-term treatment.

According to veterinary documents, the cat sustained burns over a large portion of his body roughly ten days to two weeks prior to being found by police.

Police said Charlie is expected to recover, but will need extensive treatments due to the severity of his wounds.

Individuals looking to help with his recovery can make monetary donations to Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital or to Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Control for "Charlie.”

He’s not currently available for adoption but Anne Arundel County and Waugh Chapel hope he’ll be adopted into a new home following a full recovery.
