ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Anne Arundel Police Department says a handgun was found inside of a classroom at the Phoenix Academy in Annapolis.

According to police, a staff member at the school found the handgun inside of purse-like bag that was left in a classroom. They say the School Resource Officer met with the staff member and discovered a loaded .22 caliber revolver handgun inside the bag.

Police were able to identify 19-year-old Dea'Montae Elgin as the owner of the bag. Officials say there were no threats reported or signs of other students who may have seen the gun.

Elgin was arrested and is expected to be charged with handgun related charges.
