A 24-year-old Gambrills, Md. man was found guilty for a 2013 murder in Odenton, Md., the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office said Thursday.

Police said they responded to reports of gunshots in the 1300 block of Chapelview Drive at 3:35 a.m. on Dec. 10, 2013. When they arrived they found a man, 19-year-old Shar-Ron Mason, suffering from four gunshot wounds to the upper body. He died at the scene. Police believe Mason was shot from outside of the house, likely through a window.

Police learned Phillips was awaiting trial for an assault case in which Mason was the victim.

Later on December 10, police went to Phillips' house and found a box of ammunition with Phillips' fingerprints on it that matched what was used in Mason's killing.

Phillips agreed to an interview with police, but during it, he sent texts to someone at his house saying to hide Phillips' gun. When police learned of the messages, they executed another warrant to search the house, this time finding the murder weapon.

Phillips was convicted on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of use of a firearm to commission a crime of violence, and wear, carry and transport a handgun. He'll be sentenced in September.
