A former director of the Anne Arundel County Crime Lab was sentenced for stealing drugs from drop boxes in the county.

Annette Box, 49, was given six months of active incarceration for misconduct in office and other charges related to the theft of controlled dangerous substances from county facilities.

Authorities were made aware of Box's crime after she got into an accident on December 20, 2016.
Witnesses saw her 12-year-old daughter carrying black bags full of prescription drugs from the car into a home.

Box said she picked up the drugs from drop boxes, a place where people can properly dispose of unused and unwanted medication, at several police stations around the county.

An investigation revealed Box used her position as a crime lab manager to gain access to the drugs and stole thousands of medications from 2014 to 2016.
