A 17-year-old was arrested for murder in connection to the discovery of human remains in Anne Arundel County in October of 2017, Anne Arundel County Police said.

Marcos Antonio Melendez-Gamez, of the 1000 block of Martha Court in Annapolis, Md., was arrested and charged as an adult with first and second degree murder in the death of Neris Bonilla-Palacios. He is being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.

The case began on Oct. 3, 2017, when police were tipped to human remains in a wooded area near Open View Lane in Annapolis. The remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where it was determined they were from a young man with evidence of trauma, ruling the death a homicide. The Anne Arundel County Police Latent Print Section was then able to identify the man as Neris Goivani Bonilla-Palacious, a 17-year-old man from the 600 block of Severn Island Court in Annapolis.
