Tip led University of Maryland Police to identify man accused of molesting student

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A tip sent to University of Maryland Police Criminal Investigations Unit led them to identify a man connected to an incident on their campus in December 2018.

According to police, Anwar Hammed Abdel-Rahman was charged with second-degree assault and a fouth-degree sex offense for the molestation of a female student walking back to her residence.

Around midnight of December 17, 2018, the UMD student reported to police that a man approached her near the Chapel and began to walk with her. During the walk, he touched her inappropriately in a sexual manner. She later fled the area and called police.

UMD police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Anwar Hammed Abdel-Rahman to contact UMPD at 301405-3555.
