COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A University of Maryland student studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain has tested positive for COVID-19.
The student has since returned to the United States but never returned to College Park.
They're now self isolating at their out-of-state home.
Other students who participated in the Barcelona program were notified and given guidance to remain home for 14 days with self-observation and stay alert of possible symptoms.
The University also said that they're monitoring two other suspected cases where symptoms are suggestive of a positive diagnosis.
In a letter, the university said they shared information with campus members who were known to have come into close contact with anyone suspected to have COVID-19, saying "It is likely that others of our community will be affected in the future since community spread is expanding nationally."
