BALTIMORE — The COVID-19 pandemic will not prevent Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit payments, the administration said Tuesday.
Recipients will continue to get payments on time, but the agency is warning of scammers who are trying to take advantage and trick people into giving out personal information or payments through gift cards, wire transfers, internet currency, or by mailing cash, to get Social Security benefit payments or payments from the recently passed CARES Act, which is under the Treasury Department not Social Security.
Social Security continues to direct the public to its online self-service options whenever possible. Local offices are closed to the public but are available by phone.
