MT. AIRY, Md. — The Carroll County Health Department has announced the county's second death as a result of COVID-19.

The man was a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home and had underlying medical conditions. He was over 80 years of age.

Pleasant View Mt. Airy is also reporting an additional 11 positive COVID-19 test results, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases at the facility to 77.

Eighteen of the facility’s 95 residents have tested negative and 16 have been hospitalized.

To ensure adequate support for patients who remain at the facility, the National Guard is deploying a medic unit to help assess all residents’ conditions and to determine which residents require a higher level of care.

Representatives from Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association, the Carroll County Health Department, the Mount Airy Fire Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems are on site to coordinate efforts.

The Health Department will also provide additional medical staff to the facility beginning Tuesday.
