BALTIMORE — The pandemic has brought up two major issues with child support.

A family law attorney said, the first has to do with unemployment.

Even if you lose your job, you still must pay child support until you file a request to modify it, which should be done as soon as possible to make it retroactive.

He also said, the second issue has to do with the stimulus check.

If the federal government knows you have a child support balance, you’re likely not getting your check.

“It doesn’t matter what your balance is, what matters is whether the federal government is aware of your arrange. Whether there’s been a notice given from a county or the state so that your income tax refunds generally are getting swept year by year.”
