Early Sunday morning, Baltimore County Police arrested a student for threat of assault against the University of Maryland Police Department’s (UMPD) police officers.

On Friday, someone told UMPD that an individual, Ryan Matthew Sulkowski, 21, who's originally from Baltimore, was talking about applying for firearms and that he was waiting for his background check to be completed. Sulkowski also said that he had access to firearms and that he was going to shoot UMPD police officers.

After receiving this information, the UMPD deployed and took several precautionary safety measures, like having their Criminal Investigations Unit apply for and obtain an arrest warrant, which is what lead to Sulkowski’s arrest.

According to UMPD Sergeant R. Hoaas, The Department of Corrections has released Mr. Sulkowski on his own recognizance. A trial date in Prince Georges County has not yet been announced.

Officials state Mr. Sulkowski has been banned from all University of Maryland College Park properties.
