MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. — Carroll County Sheriff's officials say a bicyclist is seriously injured after colliding with a truck Tuesday morning in Marriottsville.

At 7:37 a.m., deputies and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services crews were called to investigate a reported serious motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist in the area of Marriottsville Road and Forest Hill Road.

Investigators believe the 42-year-old rider, who has been identified as Jeffrey Wicklein, was traveling southbound on Marriottsville Road #2 when he attempted to make a right turn onto Forest Hill Road.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Wicklein made a wide turn on the eastbound travel lane of Forest Hill Road when he struck 72-year-old Woerner Preston, who was driving an older model Ford truck. Investigators say Preston was slowing down as he approached the intersection.

Wicklein was flown to Shock Trauma and Preston was taken to Howard County General Hospital.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl J. Miller of the Crash Reconstruction Unit at jmiller@carrollcountymd.gov.
