WESTMINSTER, Md (WMAR) — A dog and five cats are dead following a Wednesday afternoon chimney fire in Westminster.
The incident happened just after 3:30 p.m. at a home located at 3964 Ridge Road. Officials say it took 50 firefighters from multiple Carroll County departments about 45 minutes to contain the flames.
According to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the fire originated from the chimney of the home and quickly spread to the basement.
One dog and five cats were killed in the blaze with another dog still unaccounted for.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family who has been displaced. In total, the fire caused about $80,000.00 in damages. Investigators say the cause was accidental.
