23-year-old woman dies after crashing into utility pole in Westminster

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating an early morning crash that left one person dead.

On Saturday, at around 1:20 a.m., troopers from the Westminster Barrack responded to a single-vehicle collision on Hanover Pike, south of Cape Horn Road.

The preliminary investigation indicates that 23-year-old Taylor L. Smith, of Salisbury, Md., was traveling south on Hanover Pike in a 2007 Pontiac Torrent when, for unknown reasons, she traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. Due to the injuries sustained in the collision, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was closed while BG&E repaired the damaged utilities.

This investigation is ongoing and Trooper's First Class Duran and Klinger were the preliminary investigators in this collision.
