More than two-thirds of American adults are overweight and obese, something we don’t often associate with your risk for cancer. However, studies have confirmed a link between weight gain and cancer risk.

Maintaining a healthy weight can lower your risk and even help prevent recurrence of cancer. Eating a balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins as well as 30-60 minutes of activity per day can help maintain weight.

The Barbara L. Posner Wellness & Support Center at the Cancer Institute at UM St. Joseph Medical Center offers a full complement of services—including nutritional counseling, yoga and more—that help strengthen the mind/body/spirit and lessen the side effects of cancer treatment.
