If you love animals, chances are you've thought about becoming a vet at some point. But what are the real highs and lows of the job?

Dr. Karen Hamilton was always an animal lover, and was able to transform that passion into a career. She says passion and empathy are the two biggest components for becoming a veterinarian. We spend most of our time at work, so passion is important for any job.

If you'd like to be a veterinarian, making the grade is also important. Vet school is extremely competitive, and only a small percentage of people are accepted each year.
