Kathleen Rawlings was in the best shape of her life and training to climb Mount Kilimanjaro when her medical clearance test revealed she had a lump in her breast.
Her team at MedStar Franklin Square Cancer Center at Loch Raven Campus performed a lumpectomy and a sentinel lymph node biopsy, and then Rawlings was accepted into an immunotherapy study. Between infusions, chemo, surgery, and radiation Rawlings kept a positive attitude and kept hiking.
Rawlings had no symptoms prior to screening and supports all women having a cancer screening. She plans to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro next year.
