Maryland 2000

To help find homes for at least 2,000 homeless cats and kittens in area animal shelters, 21 Maryland shelters are waiving adoption fees for all cats and kittens in July for the Maryland 2,000 adoption promotion. Adopters will also receive a certificate for a free cat wellness exam at participating Maryland veterinary clinics.

Summer, known as “kitten season” in the animal welfare industry, is one of the busiest times of the years for animal shelters in Maryland. It is when most kittens are born and when animal shelters see a huge influx of kittens and cats.

The Maryland 2,000 is a way for the animal shelters to come together to raise awareness about shelter overcrowding and encourage families to consider adopting a cat or kitten from their local animal shelter.
